Infielder Nick Punto retiring from baseball at age 38
Utility infielder Nick Punto has announced his retirement.
Punto signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks last winter but backed away from it just before the start of spring training. He never did latch on with another team.
The 38-year-old utility infielder enjoyed an impressive 14-year major league career, tallying 798 hits and close to 8,000 innings in the field between the Minnesota Twins, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics.
