Ildemaro Vargas acquired by Diamondbacks, starting Wednesday
The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired infielder/outfielder Ildemaro Vargas from the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash considerations.
Vargas started his MLB career with the Diamondbacks in 2017 and remained with the club until August of last year. He will start on second base and bat seventh in Wednesday afternoon's series finale against left-hander David Peterson and the New York Mets. Vargas has batted just .118/.189/.176 in 16 games this season between the Pirates and Chicago Cubs.
Per numberFire's MLB Heat Map, Peterson has the third-highest strikeout rate (26.6 percent) and second-best ground ball-to-fly ball ratio among Wednesday's listed starters. However, the southpaw also has the fourth-highest walk rate (9.2 percent) out of that group.
