Lucas Duda diagnosed with stress fracture in back for Mets
New York Mets first baseman Lucas Duda has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his back, manager Terry Collins said Monday.
We reported earlier that Duda was placed on the disabled list, but this is awful news for the Mets. There's no timetable for Duda's return, and Collins said that it will be "a while." The Mets will look to a host of players at first base during his absence, including Eric Campbell, Ty Kelly, Wilmer Flores, and perhaps even Michael Conforto. Campbell gets the first crack on Monday against the Washington Nationals.
Duda is slashing just .231/.297/.431 with a .312 wOBA in 145 plate appearances this season, but has been driving the ball well. He has seven home runs and a .200 Isolated Power. Campbell entering the lineup is a significant drop-off, as he owns a career .291 wOBA and a .089 Isolated Power.
