Cody Bellinger inks 3-year deal to remain with Cubs
The Chicago Cubs signed free agent outfielder Cody Bellinger to a new 3-year contract ahead of the 2024 season.
Bellinger's new contract is for $80 million and includes player opt-outs after each season, per ESPN's Jeff Passan. The former MVP enjoyed a revitalizing 2023 season with Chicago before finally re-signing with the team just ahead of the 2024 campaign. He should be set to hit in the heart of the Cubs' lineup again this season.
After three consecutive seasons with sub-.800 OPS marks (including a season where he notched a .542 mark) Bellinger appeared to be on his way out of the league after 2022. He seemed rejuvenated last year, though, and launched 26 homers with 95 runs, 97 RBI and 20 stolen bases. He'll look to build on that bounce back in 2024.
