Mets considering demotion for Michael Conforto
The New York Mets are considering demoting outfielder Michael Conforto to Triple-A Las Vegas, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
According to Sherman, the Mets believe "an abbreviated spring training and/or the lingering impact from shoulder surgery have caused the downslide" Conforto is currently facing, with a triple-slash of .219/.340/.365. Sherman adds that "Conforto might benefit from a few weeks of steady Triple-A at-bats away from the Mets’ struggles." He could be sent down when Yoenis Cespedes (hip) returns from the disabled list, as manager Mickey Callaway told Sherman that Brandon Nimmo will play every day even after Cespedes returns. Conforto looks to have some extra time following Cespedes' setback in his most recent rehab game to convince the Mets he should stick around.
Our models project Conforto to bat .248 with 13 home runs, 35 runs, 36 RBI, and 2 stolen bases in 274 more plate appearances this year.
