Meyer: Trevor Lawrence, Gardner Minshew in "open" competition
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence and Gardner Minshew remain in an open competition, according to head coach Urban Meyer.
Everyone assumed Lawrence would be handed the starting job after he was taken No. 1 overall, but his head coach hasn't publicly committed just yet. The phrase "open" competition could simply be gamesmanship, but it should at least be taken somewhat seriously for now. Keep an eye out for updates on this situation over the next couple weeks.
Our models are currently operating under the assumption that Lawrence will be the starting quarterback. They project him for 399.44-of-606.47 passing for 4,371.92 yards and 28.31 touchdowns and 11.81 interceptions. They also ballpark him for 163.15 rushing yards and 1.36 scores on the ground.
