Giants' Saquon Barkley reportedly has 'ordinary' ankle sprain
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley avoided a high-ankle sprain, reports Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com.
What It Means:
Barkley is undergoing an MRI on Monday to confirm the initial diagnosis, but the Giants are optimistic he's dealing with an "ordinary" sprain that won't require a month-plus of recovery time. However, with the Giants playing on Thursday night in Week 3 versus the San Francisco 49ers, there's a decent chance Barkley will miss at least one game. If that's the case, Matt Breida could be in a three-down role on Thursday, albeit in a brutal matchup.
Barkley rushed 17 times for 63 yards and 1 touchdown, and caught 6 passes for 29 yards and 1 touchdown, for 24.2 FanDuel points in Week 2. Breida played two snaps on offense and touched the ball once. The 49ers are No. 17 in FanDuel points allowed per game so far this season, but the Giants are expected to be in a negative game script for most of the contest.
