Cardinals' James Conner (knee) facing multi-week absence
Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner (knee) is expected to miss multiple weeks with the knee injury he suffered in Week 5 against the Cincinnati Bengals, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Conner could be placed on injured reserve, which would require him to miss at least four games. Keaontay Ingram sat out Sunday with a neck injury, so if he remains out for Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams, the Cardinals may be left with undrafted rookie Emari Demercado and Tony Jones Jr. at running back. They signed Jones off waivers Monday.
Conner is averaging 15.2 touches per game this season, so his absence creates a sizable void in the Cardinals' backfield. Demercado played a season-high 44 snaps in Week 5 and rushed 10 times for for 45 yards and a touchdown, with 1 catch on 3 targets for 12 yards. The Rams are allowing the 10th-fewest FanDuel points per game to running backs this season while their run defense is No. 16 in numberFire's opponent-adjusted NEP model.
