Saints' Derek Carr lands back in concussion protocol
New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is in the NFL concussion protocol, per head coach Dennis Allen.
Carr is in protocol for the second time in less than a month, so it seems unlikely that he will be available for Week 14 versus the Carolina Panthers. The 32-year-old veteran was carted off in the fourth quarter on Sunday against the Detroit Lions and evaluated for back and shoulder injuries, in addition to the concussion. Jameis Winston is expected to start for the first time this season if Carr is unavailable, but Taysom Hill will also see more snaps at quarterback.
Carr completed 17 off 22 pass attempts for 226 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception in Week 13. Winston went 2 of 5 for 41 yards and Hill missed on both of his throws. Winston should be an upgrade for Chris Olave because he has a much higher average depth of target (14.0 yards) than Carr (7.8).
