Ross Cockrell entrenched as Steelers' starting cornerback

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ross Cockrell is the "entrenched" starter opposite William Gay, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review believes.

What It Means:

Cockrell ended up starting seven games in the 2015 season, and has easily beaten out first-round rookie Artie Burns in training camp this year. "Since last season, he has done nothing but continue to move onward and upward from that," head coach Mike Tomlin said. "I would imagine he didn't anticipate playing over 700 snaps, and he did a heck of a job with it. I think he's putting himself in position to play that amount this year."

Cockrell allowed a ton of big plays last year, and he appears poised to do so again. The Steelers are almost always an inviting matchup for wide receivers, and -- despite ranking 11th in the league in Adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points last season -- should be an exciting DFS matchup once again.
