DeMarco Murray still Titans' top backfield option for 2017
The Tennessee Titans will continue to view running back DeMarco Murray as "the guy" in their backfield for 2017, head coach Mike Mularkey said Wednesday.
Mularkey called sophomore Derrick Henry "an important part of our offense," but confirmed Murray will enter 2017 as Tennessee's workhorse. Now 29 years old, Murray averaged 4.39 yards per carry and logged 346 touches last season, although his effectiveness waned down the stretch due to a toe injury. While Henry will remain a threat for short-yardage and complementary carries, Murray's all-purpose ability keeps his feature back role secure.
Murray posted 0.02 Rushing Net Expected Points per attempt this year on 293 totes, which ranks 15th among the 42 running backs to carry the ball at least 100 times.
