Patriots place Martellus Bennett on injured reserve
The New England Patriots placed tight end Martellus Bennett (shoulder, hamstring) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Bennett's injuries look to be too much to recover from this season, so he will go on IR. He is under contract for next season, but the Patriots could easily cut him or ask him to take a pay cut from his $6.5 million salary. Dwayne Allen will be the main backup tight end to Rob Gronkowski over the rest of the season.
Bennett will end his season catching 30-of-44 targets for 286 yards in 2017.
