DraftKings Daily Fantasy Golf Helper: Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship

A weaker field this week means some uncomfortable choices on DraftKings. We cover the top plays in each tier.

Daily fantasy golf requires a new approach for each and every event.

The course and field change week after week, making no two contests alike. That means you need to refine your approach for each PGA Tour event to try to find golfers who are primed to excel for your daily fantasy golf lineups.

Each week, we have a course primer, and our daily fantasy golf projections and lineup builder can help you get started, but these golfers stand out specifically on DraftKings for Corales Punta Cana Resort & Club Championship.

High-Priced Studs

Will Zalatoris (DraftKings Price: $10,900 | FanDuel Sportsbook Win Odds: +1100) - Stud? OK, well, not exactly. Most golf fans did not know of Zalatoris before his T6 finish at the U.S. Open, but last week was his 12th straight top 20 worldwide. The first 11 came on the Korn Ferry Tour, and Zalatoris -- who is not yet a PGA Tour member -- is here on a sponsor's invite. The fit looks perfect, as this practically is a Korn Ferry field save for a few guys at the top, and it actually was a Korn Ferry event until a couple years ago. The top of the market is quite a leap for the 24-year-old, but in this field, he may well have the best trajectory.

Corey Conners ($10,600 | +1400) - Conners is the more known commodity, a PGA Tour winner who advanced all the way to the TOUR Championship two seasons ago and is consistently atop both ballstriking categories. This week, he ranks 2nd off the tee, 3rd on approach, 4th in opportunities gained, and 18th in strokes gained: par 5s.

Sam Burns ($10,100 | +1800) - Burns has arguably the most convincing statistical case even if the irons are quite as strong as we'd hope. He ranks 50th in strokes gained: approach but is otherwise elite, ranking 1st on par 5s, 2nd in birdies or better gained, and 3rd in strokes gained: off the tee and opportunities gained. Burns has five top-30 finishes in his last seven events, including T7 at the Safeway Open last time out.

Mid-Priced Options

Sepp Straka ($9,300 | +3700) - Straka is typically good for one or two electric rounds if he doesn't play himself off the course before the weekend. In a wide-open layout with less punishment for his mistakes, Straka should be able to string together a complete tournament and contend this week. He ranks 11th on par 5s, 14th in strokes gained: off the tee, 19th in opportunities gained, 30th in birdies or better gained, and 32nd in strokes gained: approach. He'll pull some confidence from his last time out the Safeway, where he had two rounds gaining 2+ strokes with the putter and one round gaining that much with his approaches.

Charley Hoffman ($8,900 | +4200) - Hoffman's profile looks a lot like Burns with the blip being off the tee as opposed to approach. He ranks 56th in strokes gained: approach but looks great otherwise. He is 3rd on par 5s, 5th in birdies or better gained, 7th in opportunities gained, and 10th in strokes gained: approach.

Luke List ($8,700 | +4500) - List is 2nd in opportunities gained, 4th in strokes gained: off the tee, and 12th in both strokes gained: approach and strokes gained: par 5s. List will never be known for his putting prowess, but if he can just putt to the field average, he will find himself in contention. In his last four events, he's lost 4.1, 2.4, 7.7, and 7.5 strokes putting. The tee to green game is coming back a bit, and the first step is the driver, which has been a strength in three of his last four times out.

Low-Priced Options

Cameron Percy ($7,400 | +8000) - Percy fell through the cracks amidst the loaded fields post-COVID layoff, failing to break through against the game's best. A T23 at the Safeway Open was due mostly to his putter, but he's gained on approach in six of his last eight events. He ranks 8th in strokes gained: approach, 15th on par 5s, 22nd off the tee, and 23rd in opportunities gained.

Matthew NeSmith ($7,400 | +10000) - NeSmith played well last fall against the weaker swing season fields, and the 2019 Korn Ferry grad should feel at home at Corales. He also has a track record on paspalum, as he finished T6 at the Puerto Rico Open last February. He ranks 4th in strokes gained: approach and 27th on par 5s.

Kevin Chappell ($7,300 | +9000) - An erstwhile tee to green god, Chappell suffered a back injury in 2018 and missed more than eight months of action. He returned for the Military Tribute at the Greenbriar and fired a second-round 59 but failed to break 70 in any of his three other rounds. That type of upside is worth a gamble at this price, though the recent form is pretty thin due to a lack of status to earn his way into most of the post-layoff tournaments. He's played just four tournaments since March, and the uncertainty should keep his popularity down on DraftKings this week.

Bronson Burgoon ($7,100 | +15000) - Burgoon is a solid ballstriker whose game can't quite measure up to the top players, but he is capable of spike weeks on soft courses against weaker competition. He fits the bill this week, as he ranks 11th in birdies or better gained, 21st on par 5s, 24th in strokes gained: approach, and 26th in opportunities gained.

Bargain Basement

Akshay Bhatia ($6,900 | +9000) - The 18-year-old skipped college to turn pro last fall only to see the professional golf landscape for a golfer with no status go up in smoke. In his first professional round in almost seven months, Bhatia shot 67 in his opener at the Wyndham Championship. An atrocious Friday on the greens (minus-4.7 strokes gained: putting) cost him the weekend, but the groundwork had been laid, and a few weeks later, he finished T9 at the Safeway Open. The future is bright, and the natural skill is among the best in the field.

Josh Teater ($6,800 | +17000) - Teater was runner up at the correlated Puerto Rico Open this year, and the profile overall looks pretty good -- he ranks 6th in both opportunities gained and strokes gained: par 5s, 18th in strokes gained: approach, and 29th in birdies or better gained. He is a high ceiling / low floor play but will be rostered by very few, even in the largest field tournaments.
