Churchill Downs Horse Racing Picks for Saturday 5/30/20

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and TVG gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 1:00 p.m. EST, we have 11 races at Churchill Downs including a pair of graded stakes. Using our projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

Break Even, Race 7

TVG Odds: 9/5

The $100,000 Winning Colors (G3) for fillies and Break Even (9/5) has won seven of nine starts and can take command up front in this six-furlong sprint. Top-stretch rider Joel Rosario took this mount instead of the favorite, Mia Mischief (8/5), who is one of the top filly/mare sprinters in the nation. Mia Mischief is 12 for 13 in the Trifecta going 6 panels. Spiced Perfection (7/2) moves over to the Mark Casse barn and is the top pick at Daily Horse Picks, where TVG offers a $25 free bet.

Top Seed, Race 10

TVG Odds: 3/1

This race comes up a little soft of pressure and pace, which opens the door for sprinter Top Seed (3/1) to stretch out. He’s bred for longer by Orb. Lightly raced as a 4-year-old and has won two of three starts with a career-best 98 Equibase speed figure five weeks ago in victory. Twelfth Labour (20-1) is an overlooked longshot for trainer Dallas Stewart who has three in-the-money finishes in his last four starts at this level, including a 100 Equibase speed figure over this Churchill track at 3-1 odds.

Juliet Foxtrot, Race 11

TVG Odds: 5/2

The $100,000 Mint Julep (G3) drew a full field of 14 older horses going 1 1/16 miles on the turf. Juliet Foxtrot is working beautifully and should fire well off the bench in her 2020 debut. She can save ground from the rail and faces easier competition after a pair of Grade 1 events the end of 2019. Beau Recall (4/1) is the top pick's stablemate and also off a long layoff. She’s a closer who will be moving late into any hot pace. Nay Lady Nay (4/1) can also come from off the pace for trainer Chad Brown and may show a surprising burst down the lane off a layoff. Brown’s other entry, Altea (12-1), is a closer whose form progression and price makes her worthy of inclusion in the exotics as the second choice of Daily Horse Picks.
