Belmont Park Horse Racing Picks for Sunday 7/5/20

There are 10 races at Belmont Park Sunday. Which horses should you bet on at FanDuel Racing?

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 1:15 p.m. EST, we have 10 races at Belmont Park. Using our numberFire projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Tapizearance, Race 6

FanDuel Racing Odds: 12/1

Race 6 is a Starter Allowance that drew eight entries going 6 furlongs. The start of the Grand Slam and Late Pick 5 with the favorite Fevola (2/1) and EPO trainer Chad Brown taking money as the top pick. Fevola broke her Maiden in February with an 8-length win in a very short field. Consistent 4 furlong works the past two months preparing for her return, and Daily Horse Picks give him the class, speed, and pace advantage in the field.

The speed in here is Riken (9/2), who won off the bench five weeks ago at 25/1 odds, posting an 87 speed figure. He’ll be out front again, and apprentice jockey Luis Cardenas tries to repeat stepping up in class.

Tapizearance (12/1) is the longshot pick who finished sixth off a layoff a month ago but won at this level as the odds-on favorite in February with a 92 speed figure. Plenty of value at this price with solid shot to hit the board and potentially pull the upset with numberFire picking him second.

Coach Villa (3/1) won his last race in February and will be pressing the pace in his return. The son of Big Brown also finished third in January with a career-best 96 speed figure and makes his 20th start today as the top pick of numberFire.

She’s Got You, Race 7
Chaleur, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/1
FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2

A flat mile for this Allowance race with only Dark Artist (15/1) running for the $62,500 Optional Claiming tag. The field drew nine fillies and mares with Stone Tornado (2/1) and EPO trainer Chad Brown the slight favorite over Indy Union (5/2) and German bred Madita (5/2). Stone Tornado won her U.S. debut last month and is one of five solid runners in here who all started their careers overseas.

Brown also has She’s Got You (4/1) in here for her U.S. debut, and that’s who we’ll put on top. She’s Got You is by top sire Kingman and has hit the board in five of six starts with three wins and has class to beat these on her U.S. soil debut.

Chaleur (7/2) is the top pick at numberFire with implied odds to win of 22% at FanDuel Racing. Jockey John Velzaquez rides for trainer Bill Mott, and Johnny V rode Chaleur to a third-place finish in her U.S. debut in May at this level posting a 100 speed figure. She had the lead in the stretch at Churchill Downs going 1 1/8 miles. A cut back in distance and she should be right there fighting for the win with a strong morning work over the track in place for her Belmont Park debut.

Chewing Gum, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2

Race 9 drew 11 older horses in a competitive 7-furlong Allowance race with just one racing for an $80,000 tag. Chewing Gum (7/2) and strong stretch rider Joel Rosario is a bet to hit the board, having done so in 6-of-6 races on the turf (including 1-for-1 at Belmont, winning last month at this level with a career-best 109 speed figure).

The top pick at numberFire is Delaware (5/1), and he needs to be considered strongly with EPO trainer Chad Brown giving a leg up to Belmont’s leading jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. A pair of strong morning works with his second U.S. race off a long layoff over the track suggests improvement off a 101 speed figure and contender.

Front Run the Fed (3/1) is also ready to move up after finishing fourth as the favorite at this level in May at Churchill Downs. He won here last year and also finished second in a minor stakes race with a 107 speed figure and fits well again.
