HORSE RACING

Louisiana Downs Horse Racing Picks for Tuesday 9/22/20

There are eight races on Tuesday at Louisiana Downs. Which horses should you bet on at TVG?

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and TVG gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 4:00 p.m. EST, we have 8 races at Louisiana Downs. Using numberFire’s projections and Daily Horse Picks as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Belmar Beauty and Susan Jones, Race 3

TVG Racing Odds: 9/2 and 10/1

Rain is in the forecast for Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s closing day, so check the program for scratches and changes and races taken off the turf. An off track and potential muddy track could cause some racing chaos as you watch and wager on all the races at TVG. This claiming races is a 6-furlong sprint for fillies and mares.

The top pick according to both Daily Horse Picks (DHP) and Guaranteed Tip Sheet (GTS) is Belmar Beauty (9/2). The 3-year-old posted his best speed figure (82) with a stalking trip and runner-up finish to the favorite less than a month ago. Belmar Beauty has finished in-the-money in 4-of-5 starts this year and has the top speed and pace projection of DHP.

Saint Kennedy (10/1) is 0-for-7 this year and has failed to hit the board while racing against better horses. He rates as the top class runner in the race, according to DHP, and switches back to dirt after trying the turf his last two races.

Susan Jones (10/1) had leading-jockey Joel Dominguez scheduled to ride but changed to Carlos Lozada. He could factor in at a nice price having raced against better runners recently and with a pair of solid morning works on his work tab.

Ella’s Lil Star, Race 6

TVG Racing Odds: 10/1

Race 6 is an Allowance race for state-bred fillies and mares sprinting 6 furlongs. DHP projects longshot Ella’s Lil Star (8/1) to win and mild favorite Icy Charlie (7/2) to hit the board. GTS has a best bet on Afleet Moon (9/2).

Afleet Moon won his debut here by 5 lengths the end of July and now faces winners. Icy Charlie makes his Louisiana Downs debut after breaking his maiden last month with a low 70s speed figure. Ella’s Lil Star has won three straight races at Evangeline Downs with high 60s speed figures and faces better runners in his Louisiana Downs debut.

Confederate Yell, Race 8

TVG Racing Odds: 6/1

Race 8 is a small Claiming race at 1 mile and 70 yards, and favorite Social Misfit (2/1) has been scratched. Take Charge Chase (5/1) is stringing races together with his third start off a layoff and won last month coming from off the pace to beat the favorite at this level.

Confederate Yell (6/1) is an experienced 6-year-old runner who posted strong high 70s speed figures in June and July including a third-pace finish. His strong off-the-pace run over a muddy track here in July when facing better runners in an Allowance race sets him up for success today.
