HORSE RACING

Santa Anita Park Horse Racing Picks for Friday 3/12/21

It's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 3:30 p.m. EST, we have 8 races at Santa Anita Park. Using numberFire’s projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and check the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)

Missy P, Race 4

FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/5

Race 4 is a Maiden Special Weight for fillies and mares sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs. Reem (5/2), who on the rail for trainer Bob Baffert, is a best bet of Guaranteed Tip Sheet, but numberfire's data picks favorite Missy P (6/5) from the outside No. 7 post with top jockey Flavien Prat riding.

Missy P is making her much-anticipated debut. She’s very well bred and working beautifully in the mornings for trainer Richard Mandella. She comes at a short price, and while there is always some uncertainty in a debut race, she looks ready to fire. Reem dueled and cracked in her debut last month, making her first start in 11 months.

Burnin Turf, Race 5

FanDuel Racing Odds: 9/5

Race 5 is an Allowance race for state bred older horses running 1 mile on the turf. We have another short favorite who is the top pick of numberFire, and this time it is Burnin Turf (8/5) with Prat riding once again. Horse Racing Radar notes he’s improved his solid speed figures each race with a win in January and then a 102 clip when finishing third against a good Allowance group. He’s another best bet of Guaranteed Tip Sheet, and Daily Horse Picks rates Burnin Turf the top speed in the race.

Disappearing Act, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 8/5

Race 7 is a Maiden Special Weight for fillies and mares that is racing a classic distance of 1 1/4 miles on the turf. The EPO trainers need to be noted when horses are running longer distances, and there are some of those in this race -- including Mike McCarthy for Midnight Diva (5/1) and the top two projected finishers by numberFire in trainer Phil D’Amato with Witch Moon (3/1) on the rail and Disappearing Act (8/5) on the outside No. 8 post with Prat riding.

Disappearing Act has finished runner-up in 3-of-6 starts, including her last race in January when posting a career-best 92 speed figure. Prat rallied her from off the pace to the front in the stretch but got collard late in that 1 1/8-mile race. Baltas has won 7 of his last 15 starts as he gives his horses what they need. Witch Moon got caught in heavy traffic in her local debut and finished fourth rallying wide. The meet’s second leading jockey, Juan Hernandez, rides after Prat decides to take the more talented favorite.
