At the age of 28, Jeter was voted an All-Star for the fifth time in seven full seasons in the big leagues. However, for only the second time, he did not crack the top 25 in AL MVP voting.

Why? Who the heck knows. The shortstop tallied 191 hits, 18 home runs and 75 runs batted in across 157 games and 730 plate appearances. He hit .297 and stole 32 bases, a total that ranked second behind only one other season. Sounds like an MVP candidate, right?

In the field, Jeter was just as good. With a fielding percentage of .977 and just 14 errors, Jeter's 7.0 defensive runs above average (DEF) were the third-best of his career.
