With the third day of the season upon us, most aces have already pitched, so it may be tempting to use a familiar name such as Ian Kennedy. With a respectable 20.0% strikeout rate in 2017, his eighth straight year with a strikeout rate of at least 20.0%, Kennedy may seem like an appealing dart throw.

But Kennedy's batted-ball profile indicates that it may be a better idea to stack the Chicago White Sox against him rather than actually use Kennedy in your pitcher slot.

Kennedy surrendered a 47.7% fly-ball rate and 41.2% hard-hit rate last season, when the league-average marks were a 35.5% fly-ball rate and 31.8% hard-hit rate. That makes him prone to blow-up outings, and it takes him off the table in cash games.
