Jon Jay does his best work against righties, but he has posted competent numbers against left-handed pitching with a .322 wOBA in 324 plate appearances over the last three years. That's not an exciting mark by any stretch, but it is enough that the rest of this situation puts him firmly in play tonight.

San Diego Padres southpaw Eric Lauer has a weak 4.72 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) this season, which is the fourth-worst mark among today's starters. He's also allowing the third-highest hard-hit rate in the group (40.6%) while forcing the third-lowest soft-hit rate (13.5%).

The Arizona Diamondbacks have a solid 4.60 implied total in this one, and with Jay batting leadoff in 68 of his 80 starts this season, he will likely be at the top of the order tonight, positioning him to see plenty of plate appearances with which to take advantage of the plus spot.
