3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Hitters to Avoid on 9/14/16

Tyler Flowers is up against Jose Fernandez this evening in a matchup you'll surely want to avoid. What other players are in a bad spot?

As is the case in most daily fantasy sports, finding information on players you might want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.

While you can get away with a zero from a hitter in daily fantasy, you certainly don't want to target guys whose matchups aren't enticing.

Here are three hitters you may want to lessen your exposure to or even fade altogether on Wednesday.

Tyler Flowers, C, Atlanta Braves

FanDuel Price: $2,700

Even with the shorter night slate of action on Wednesday evening, there are some nice catching options. If you’re looking for value at catcher, our projections have guys like Evan Gattis and Tony Wolters as two of the best options, and both are a lot more attractive than Atlanta Braves' catcher Tyler Flowers.

Flowers has to face off against Jose Fernandez in a matchup that puts just about all the Braves' bats on the avoid list. Flowers does have a solid .355 wOBA against righties this season, but his strikeout rate is up to 30.6% against them.

Fernandez owns a 43.6% strikeout rate against fellow righties this season, and they have just a .246 wOBA against him. Fernandez owns an unworldly 1.69 xFIP against righties this season, and he is limiting them to a 28.4% hard-hit rate,

Danny Valencia, 3B, Oakland Athletics

FanDuel Price: $2,600

Danny Valencia is another player you might want to steer clear of this evening. He and the Oakland Athletics are going up against Yordano Ventura, who has been heating up at the right time for the Kansas City Royals. Even though Ventura got knocked around in his last outing, he has turned in quality starts in 10 of his last 12 games.

Ventura has also been pretty good against righties this season, as well. They own a .314 wOBA against him with a hard-hit rate just below 30%. While Ventura’s numbers aren’t amazing, he has been pitching better over the last few months, and he has only allowed eight homers to righties this season across 373 batters faced.

Valencia has a .324 wOBA and 23.8% strikeout rate against right-handed pitchers this season while his ISO falls to .153, compared to a .207 ISO against southpaws.

J.J. Hardy, SS, Baltimore Orioles

FanDuel Price: $2,500

J.J. Hardy sent a ball over the Green Monster on Tuesday, and he has been playing well lately with a homer and seven RBI’s in his last seven games, hitting .364 in that stretch. Despite the hot stretch, he's not very appealing in his clash with Rick Porcello.

Porcello has been outstanding this season for the Boston Red Sox. He was baseball's first 20-game winner, and he has been very good against hitters from both sides of the plate. Righties have a .294 wOBA against Porcello this season with a hard-hit rate of just 27.6%.

Hardy owns a meager .304 wOBA against righties this season while his ISO falls to .139 and his hard-hit rate drops to 31.6%.
