4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 5/16/17

Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.

Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.

Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.

Now, let's get to the stacks. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.

Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks have the second-highest implied team total on the slate, meaning they're at major risk of being a chalky selection. If that happens, we should feel safe pivoting off of them for something else. If not, they're in a good spot to do some damage against Tommy Milone.

Most of Milone's advanced stats as a starter this year truly aren't bad. He's not walking anybody, and he has a respectable 18.1% strikeout rate to go with his ghastly 21.5% hard-hit rate. That alone should make us want to look elsewhere. But at the same time, this is just a four-start, 19-inning sample, and the competition Milone has faced is less-than-stellar against lefties. None of the teams ranks higher than 20th in hard-hit rate when facing southpaws, and three of his four starts have come against teams ranking 26th or worse in this department. While Milone is likely better than perception, his early-season stats aren't fully dependable.

With A.J. Pollock now back on the disabled list, there's a spot open atop the Diamondbacks' order. One of the top two spots will go to Chris Owings, who was hitting second against lefties even before Pollock went down. The other is up for grabs. The two most likely candidates seem to be righties Brandon Drury and Nick Ahmed, both of whom at least have something to offer against lefties. Here are their batted-ball marks versus those hurlers since the start of last year along with their positions and prices on FanDuel.

Neither guy is a stud, but they're not priced like one, either. It would be a bummer if Ahmed gets the promotion because both he and Owings are shortstop eligible on FanDuel, meaning we couldn't use the two together. Regardless, check this lineup when it comes out and plug the value around Owings, Yasmany Tomas, and Paul Goldschmidt for a solid-looking stack.
