4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 5/22/17
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Arizona Diamondbacks
Chicago White Sox pitcher Miguel Gonzalez does one thing very well: he limits hard contact. That's a great asset to have if you're going to last in the big leagues, but that's pretty much the only thing operating in his favor. He'll get a major test of that superiority today as he faces an Arizona Diamondbacks team that ranks second in hard-hit rate against righties, and it could lead to some issues on the bump for Gonzalez.
Setting Gonzalez's batted-ball data aside for a second, the rest of his peripherals prompt concern. He has just a 13.6% strikeout rate, 8.6% walk rate, and 5.34 SIERA overall. Additionally, it's not as if that low hard-hit rate comes due to an abundance of ground balls. Opponents have a 44.3% fly-ball rate against him, meaning that they do still have a bit of upside even if they're not spanking that puppy all over the yard. When you put a pitcher of this composition up against a team that is murking baseballs, things can go awry, which should allow us to dig the Diamondbacks quite a bit.
It's hard to figure out what the Diamondbacks' lineup will look like as they used several over the weekend, but the ideal setup would be Chris Owings in the leadoff spot followed by David Peralta. They're $3,200 and $3,100, respectively, on FanDuel, and they've got gobs more talent offensively than the alternative, Gregor Blanco. If those two hold down the top two spots, then they should be locks in this stack. Add in an improving Brandon Drury for $2,700 in the sixth spot, and you may have the salary to pay up for any of the pinnacles of production in Paul Goldschmidt, Jake Lamb, and Yasmany Tomas. You can still stack them if Blanco's in the leadoff spot; it'll just be a lot less satisfactory.
