4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 7/21/17
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. As always, today's game at Coors Field will not be included in these recommendations. You likely already know that Coors is an offensive haven and don't need us to tell you so. Here are the other teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Kansas City Royals
Given how often they have burned us this year, we should probably vomit at the thought of stacking the Kansas City Royals. They were wretched earlier in the year, and they're a bit hard to predict now in their improved state. But when James Shields is on the bump, all bitterness gets the cold shoulder.
Shields was chucking it well back in April, but ever since his stint on the disabled list, he has regressed back into 2016 form. In his five starts, Shields has a 5.86 SIERA with a 12.4% strikeout rate and 9.9% walk rate. The balls have been flying off the bat, too, with a 38.5% hard-hit rate and 45.1% fly-ball rate. There's gobs of upside in stacking against a guy with that type of profile, so we need the Royals in our lives.
There aren't many catchers in baseball who launch tanks into orbit. Even fewer of them will come at a salary lower than $3,000 on FanDuel. Say hello to your shining pinnacle of Gucciness, Salvador Perez.

We know that Perez yokes against lefties, but he also has a 39.1% hard-hit rate and 46.4% fly-ball rate without the platoon advantage. He has been slumping a bit of late, but he still has a 34.9% hard-hit rate and 42.9% fly-ball rate the past 30 days. While batting fifth against Shields, Perez is a guy to whom we need heavy exposure, and he's the focal point of this Royals stack.
