4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 7/25/17
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.
Milwaukee Brewers
Edwin Jackson's first start of 2017 went pretty well last week as he held the Los Angeles Angels to two runs on three hits over seven innings of work, and Jackson managed to avoid any walks. He's back on the hill today for a matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers, but that one start doesn't mean we should avoid the bats that are facing him.
The larger body of work on Jackson is one that tells a bit more troubling tale. In 84 innings last year -- some of which came in relief -- his SIERA was 5.23 with a 16.4% strikeout rate and 11.0% walk rate. Those walk issues followed him into Triple-A this year, where he had a 12.1% rate over 40 2/3 innings between the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles. Add these free passes into a guy's repertoire when he allows a 33.3% hard-hit rate and 38.7% fly-ball rate can lead to issues in a hurry. Jackson has the ability to get some whiffs, so the Brewers do carry a bit of risk, but they're worth it due to the upside in this matchup.
The ceiling potential in the Brewers' bats doesn't just come from Jackson's struggles; they're also just a good offense. They're 12th in hard-hit rate against righties, and they've got some individuals who are just spanking the ball over the past 30 days.
Past 30 Days | Hard-Hit Rate | Fly-Ball Rate | Position | Price |
---|---|---|---|---|
Travis Shaw | 47.1% | 37.3% | 3B | $3,600 |
Ryan Braun | 45.3% | 39.6% | OF | $4,200 |
Domingo Santana | 40.7% | 23.7% | OF | $3,500 |
Jonathan Villar | 40.0% | 20.8% | 2B | $3,000 |
Jesus Aguilar | 37.5% | 40.6% | 1B | $2,400 |
Eric Thames | 35.0% | 45.0% | 1B | $3,400 |
Manny Pina | 31.7% | 51.2% | C | $2,500 |
Assuming that Jesus Aguilar sits with a righty on the bump, the two obvious values are Jonathan Villar and Manny Pina, who will likely be batting first and sixth, respectively. You can feel pretty confident in starting your stack with them and paying up for whichever higher-priced assets you can afford.
