4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 5/3/18

The Red Sox rank second in runs scored this season, and they get lefty Mike Minor tonight. Are they the top stacking option on a four-game main slate?

Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.

Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.

Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.

Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. Now, let's get to the stacks.

Boston Red Sox

With a small four-game main slate tonight, the Boston Red Sox could be a chalky play. They sport what is easily the main slate's highest implied team total with a 5.21 mark against Mike Minor.

Minor has been up and down to start 2018. Over 27 innings, he has posted a solid 21.4% strikeout rate with a superb 12.3% swinging-strike rate and limited free passes with a 5.4% walk rate. Where Minor runs into trouble is a sketchy batted-ball profile as he's allowed a 42.3% hard-hit rate and 44.9% fly-ball rate to all bats, and that has led to a rough xFIP of 4.54.

Right-handed batters have been particularly challenging for Minor this season, ripping him for a. 355 wOBA, .244 isolated power (ISO), 42.7% hard-hit rate, and 50.0% fly-ball rate. In 2017, working out of the bullpen, Minor allowed a 45.7% fly-ball rate to righties.

This stack will be decidedly right-handed heavy.

Is there no end to what this dude can do at the dish?

Mookie Betts ($4,600 on FanDuel) is sure to see a ton of ownership after destroying Danny Duffy for three bombs yesterday, and he's been solid against left-handed pitching. Since 2017, Betts has rocked righties for a .387 wOBA and 40.3% fly-ball rate.

Also popping a homer yesterday, J.D. Martinez ($4,400) is a potential chalky option. He has even more absurd numbers against lefties as he's logged a .501 wOBA and 54.5% hard-hit rate in 135 plate appearances. Martinez did tweak his thumb injury yesterday, so make sure he's in the lineup.

Betts and Martinez will likely be very popular, so check out two other options in the Sox's lineup, both of whom are under $4,000 in Hanley Ramirez ($3,900) and Rafael Devers ($3,800).

Ramirez has been a beast against left-handers since the start of last season, blasting them for a 37.9% hard-hit rate and 38.9% fly-ball rate. While Devers won't have the platoon advantage, he's been pretty strong against same-sided arms. Over 86 career plate appearances against southpaws, he's logged a .410 wOBA and may see a little less ownership with the lefty-lefty matchup.
