4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 7/24/18
Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.
Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks.
St. Louis Cardinals
The most apt name in sports is probably Usain Bolt. The fact that the last name of the fastest man alive is Bolt is just amazing. After that, the most apt name in sports is Homer Bailey -- and it's for all the wrong reasons.
This season, Bailey has a 4.78 ERA... in Triple-A. In the Majors, that mark has ballooned to 6.68. This includes 2.18 home runs per 9 innings, a 37.3% fly-ball rate, 43.2% hard-hit rate, and 7.3% swinging-strike rate. The St. Louis Cardinals should be able to take advantage of Bailey's propensity to allow loud contact, as they rank fourth in baseball with a 39.2% hard-hit rate against right-handed pitching.
Matt Carpenter ($4,200) has been on an absolute tear of late, and the metrics suggest that we could have seen this one coming. He has a 51.9% fly-ball rate and 50.8% hard-hit rate against right-handed pitching this season.
Meanwhile, Tommy Pham ($3,200) has a 47.9% hard-hit rate this year, and Jose Martinez ($3,100) combines superb plate discipline with excellent power as indicated by his 15.4% strikeout rate and 40.4% hard-hit rate on the year.
Paul DeJong ($3,100) owns a 41.4% fly-ball rate and 36.6% hard-hit rate this season. The great Yadier Molina ($3,100) owns a 13.7% strikeout rate and 45.2% hard-hit rate this year. And while Marcell Ozuna ($2,900) has been a disappointment for the Cardinals this season, he still has a 19.0% strikeout rate and 45.1% hard-hit rate. Dexter Fowler ($2,900) is another cheap option, as he owns a 40.3% fly-ball rate and 33.7% hard-hit rate this year.
