4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 8/10/18

The St. Louis Cardinals could be in for a big night against an unimposing Burch Smith. What other offenses stand out on Friday?

Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.

Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.

Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.

Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.

Now, let's get to the stacks. As usual, we will not include today's game at Coors Field in these recommendations. You already know that you want bats at Coors when you can afford them, and you don't need us to tell you. Here are the other teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.

St. Louis Cardinals

Another day, another Coors Field game, but with Kenta Maeda and Jon Gray duking it out tonight, we won't necessarily see as high-scoring an affair in Colorado. Therefore, it's not a bad idea to consider some non-Coors stacks in tournaments, including the St. Louis Cardinals against Burch Smith.

Between the bullpen and rotation, Smith is allowing a 44.7% hard-hit rate and 40.1% ground-ball rate, leading to 12 dingers over just 59 innings. His five starts have been forgettable, to say the least, posting a putrid 8.27 ERA and 4.89 FIP. As an added bonus, if the Cardinals chase Smith from the game early, the lowly Kansas City Royals bullpen owns a league-worst 4.49 SIERA.

Matt Carpenter ($4,700) has mashed five round-trippers over the last six games, so his price is starting to get up there, but he's been racking up gaudy numbers for quite a while now. Since May 16, he's produced a league-best 204 wRC+ and .475 wOBA. Not too shabby for a guy people were ready to write off after a horrendous April.

After Carpenter, the Cardinals get a whole lot cheaper, with Yadier Molina ($3,300), Jose Martinez ($2,900), and Marcell Ozuna ($3,400) all owning hard-hit rates above 40% against righties. Martinez is particularly appealing at this price, owning a fantastic .388 expected weighted on-base average (xwOBA) for the year. Jedd Gyorko ($2,800) and Kolten Wong ($2,300) are less exciting, but provide some salary relief at third base and second base, respectively.

Paul DeJong ($3,700) is a tad expensive, but provides reasonable upside with a career .345 wOBA and .221 isolated power (ISO).
