Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Adds: Week 14

Cavan Biggio is playing well and appears to be locked in to an everyday role with the Jays. Which other waiver wire players should you add in season-long formats?

It's waiver time. One of the keys to any fantasy success is not only nailing your draft, but scouring that waiver wire for players who can give your team a boost. Even though fantasy baseball can be a really long season, it's key to scour those waivers and take it week-by-week to cement your fantasy status.

The four players below are all owned in fewer than 50% of Yahoo leagues and could give your team a lift as you start off the season. It's never too early to consider some adds and drops for your team.

Brendan McKay - Tampa Bay Rays (SP, 1B)

Yahoo Ownership: 50%

The Tampa Bay Rays have changed their tune a bit lately, calling up top prospects more quickly instead of holding out for service-time reasons. The lastest Rays call-up is Brendan McKay, and the stud two-way prospect is bound to turn some heads.

McKay will make his debut as a starting pitcher Saturday, and he's been dominant in all minor league stops until this point. The southpaw's lowest strikeout rate was this year at Triple-A, which sat at a cool 28.0% over 25 innings pitched, and his strikeout rate peaked as high as 47.0% in Single-A over 25 2/3 innings.

The fourth overall pick in the 2014 draft has shown solid command, as well, never reaching a double-digit walk rate. If your starting staff needs a shot in the arm, peep McKay, and depending on what site you play on, you might be able to plug him into the lineup when he hits, which he's expected to get a chance to do while he's up.

Cavan Biggio - Toronto Blue Jays (2B/OF)

Yahoo Ownership: 29%

We've highlighted Cavan Biggio in this space before, and yet he continues to go criminally under-owned despite posting pretty solid numbers.

In the last 30 days, Biggio ranks 29th on the Yahoo! Player Rater, posting a .384 on-base percentage (OBP) with four home runs and four stolen bases. He also has been moved around the diamond, playing a little bit of everywhere to add to his roster flexibility.

Biggio has been operating in a premium lineup spot, too. Over his last seven starts, he's hit cleanup in all but one, a start when he manned the leadoff spot.

Scott Oberg - Colorado Rockies (RP)

Yahoo Ownership: 27%

With the Colorado Rockies reportedly considering a change at closer, Scott Oberg looks to be in line to garner the majority of save opportunities in at least the short term, and saves are always a tough commodity to nail down.

First, let's discuss the challenges with incumbent Wade Davis. The right-hander currently sports a 21.2% strikeout rate, one of the worst marks of his career, and his 14.2% walk rate has damaged nearly all of his peripherals. His soaring 39.0% hard-hit rate certainly hasn't helped his cause, either.

Oberg is no king of the peripherals himself, logging a 10.2% walk rate, but his 28.0% strikeout rate will play. If you need saves, betting on Oberg is a good bet to make.

Manuel Margot - San Diego Padres (OF)

Yahoo Ownership: 11%

Looking for speed at all spots? Yea, me too. One super cheap option for your outfield could be Manuel Margot, who has been on top of his game lately.

Margot has quietly hit the double-digit steal plateau in 2019, nabbing five steals over the last 30 days. Power likely won't be a large part of his game, but he is gaining playing time in the outfield with Wil Myers struggling due to a 35.7% strikeout rate.

Make no mistake -- Margot probably won't provide a lot of auxiliary support in other categories, but he can steal bags. Check on the outfielder if you are looking for a boost in the stolen base category.
