3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 8/16/19

While we have plenty of pieces geared towards guys you should target in your DFS contests, it's also important to narrow down your short list of plays and avoid the suboptimal ones who are overpriced and/or in tough spots.

Let's check out three guys to consider fading on tonight's FanDuel main slate.

Mike Minor, P, Texas Rangers

FanDuel Price: $9,400

Up to this point, Mike Minor has been one of the top pitchers in the American League. The lefty has a 2.90 ERA and has limited opponents to a sub .300 wOBA. Despite his strong numbers, Minor faces a tough matchup against the Minnesota Twins who currently have a.365 wOBA against lefties which ranks second in the majors. The Twins are also on pace to break the single-season home run record which does not bode well for any pitcher regardless of their skill.

Consider starting Noah Syndergaard ($9,800) in a matchup that is worth the extra salary.

Christian Yelich, OF, Milwaukee Brewers

FanDuel Price: $4,500

Christian Yelich can be awfully tough to avoid. He has followed last season's MVP campaign with a similarly impressive season hitting 39 home runs while maintaining a 173 wRC+. Although Yelich is not bad against lefties, his wOBA is nearly 100 points lower against lefties than righties. Coupled with his difficult matchup against Patrick Corbin, who has held lefties to a .240 wOBA and surrendered only two home runs, Yelich's is best left on the bench.

Opt for rookie Yordan Alvarez ($4,400) who has 12 home runs in 133 at-bats against righties.

Hunter Pence, OF, Texas Rangers

FanDuel Price: $3,700

Hunter Pence has had a resurgent year with the Texas Rangers after struggling last season with the San Francisco Giants. Despite his success, Pence has not been nearly as productive against righties. Pence's strikeout percentage jumps by nearly 7% against righties while his wOBA falls nearly 70 points to .350. Opposing pitcher, righty Jake Odorizzi has limited righties to a .244 wOBA while surrendering less than one home run per nine innings.

Tommy Pham ($3,600) has a more favorable matchup against lefty Daniel Norris.
