3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 8/23/19

Zack Greinke hasn't been getting punchouts since joining Houston, and he's up against the low-strikeout Angels tonight, making him tough to stomach at his lofty salary.

While we have plenty of pieces geared towards guys you should target in your DFS contests, it's also important to narrow down your short list of plays and avoid the suboptimal ones who are overpriced and/or in tough spots.

Let's check out three guys to consider fading on tonight's FanDuel main slate.

Zack Greinke, P, Houston Astros

FanDuel Price: $10,300

The Houston Astros have done wonders for several pitchers and therefore have had one of the strongest rotations in the league over the past few seasons. Recent addition Zack Greinke hopes to be the latest addition to that list, but his matchup with the Los Angeles Angels suggests leaving him on the bench.

Since joining the Astros, Greinke has a 4.37 FIP and just an 18% strikeout rate. Additionally, the Angels have a 104 wRC+, which is tied for the sixth-best mark in the league, and they carry a meager 19.5% strikeout rate, the second-lowest clip/

If you want to spend big on a pitcher, opt for Lance Lynn against the Chicago White Sox.

Jose Abreu, 1B, Chicago White Sox

FanDuel Price: $4,000

Jose Abreu has been a mainstay in the Chicago White Sox's lineup since debuting in 2014. He has never hit less than 22 home runs in a season and has been one of the game's better offensive first basemen.

However, he is showing some decline this season as his on-base percentage is currently at a career low of .316. His matchup against aforementioned righty Lance Lynn is not favorable, either, as Abreu has been limited to a .309 wOBA against righties.

Consider saving salary with Carlos Santana ($3,700).

Corey Seager, SS, Los Angeles Dodgers

FanDuel Price: $3,200

Corey Seager has not been able to return to his pre-injury offensive form as he currently has a 112 wRC+, compared to 127 in 2017. While he has still been valuable for the Los Angeles Dodgers, he is best left on the bench against southpaw James Paxton. Against lefties, Seager has a .286 wOBA and only two of his 12 home runs.

Instead, you can opt for Nick Ahmed ($3,100), who has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball over the last couple of weeks.
