3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 9/9/19

Aaron Nola is at home but facing an always dangerous Braves' lineup. Should we avoid him tonight and pay up elsewhere?

While we have plenty of pieces geared towards guys you should target in your DFS contests, it's also important to narrow down your shortlist of plays and avoid the suboptimal ones who are overpriced and/or in tough spots.

Let's check out three guys to consider fading on tonight's FanDuel main slate.

Aaron Nola, P, Philadelphia Phillies

FanDuel Price: $9,800

Righty Aaron Nola will take the mound tonight against the Atlanta Braves as the Philadelphia Phillies attempt to make one final push at a wildcard spot. Despite being their ace, Nola is best left on the bench tonight due to the Braves' performance against righties this year. Atlanta currently ranks 6th with a .335 wOBA against righties and they rank 2nd with a 9.9% walk rate. Considering their ability to both hit and work the count, Nola will likely fail to live up to his expensive price tag.

Consider saving salary with Madison Bumgarner ($9,000) as he takes on the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates.

Gary Sanchez, C, New York Yankees

FanDuel Price: $4,100

There are few players in the league with more power than Gary Sanchez but in tonight's matchup, his legendary power should be mitigated by Boston Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez. The lefty has held opposing righties to a .308 wOBA in what has been his most impressive season to date. Sanchez has had a tough time against lefties, hitting only seven of his 34 home runs against southpaws while experiencing a 25% decline in offensive performance based on wRC+.

Additionally, Fenway Park has suppressed home runs this season according to park factors. Leave Sanchez on the bench tonight in favor of Pete Alonso ($4,100)

Bryan Reynolds, OF, Pittsburgh Pirates

FanDuel Price: $3,500

If not for Pete Alonso, Bryan Reynolds would be in contention for rookie of the year for his excellent performance this season. The switch hitter has accumulated 3.2 WAR while becoming a main part of the Pittsburgh Pirates' future plans. Despite his stellar offensive performance, Reynolds has a dip in performance against lefties. His wOBA against southpaws is over 60 points lower than against righties. Taking on Madison Bumgarner, Reynolds is best left untouched on tonight's slate.

Franmil Reyes ($3,300) has more upside in his matchup against the Los Angeles Angels.
