3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 9/26/19
While we have plenty of pieces geared towards guys you should target in your DFS contests, it's also important to narrow down your shortlist of plays and avoid the suboptimal ones who are overpriced and/or in tough spots.
Let's check out three guys to consider fading on tonight's FanDuel main slate.
Dylan Cease, P, Chicago White Sox
FanDuel Price: $7,300
With a shortage of quality pitching options on the five-game slate tonight, it can be tempting to take a flier on Dylan Cease who is coming off his best outing as a pro, recording eight strikeouts through six innings allowing one run. While cease is promising and has flashed good stuff, he still has a FIP of 5.19 this season and is allowing 1.85 HR/9. Facing the Cleveland Indians, who need to win to stay in the wild card race, leave Cease on the bench.
Pitching is really ugly tonight, but Jose Quintana ($6,700) at least has high upside in his matchup with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Michael Conforto
FanDuel Price: $3,500
Michael Conforto has had another quality season for the New York Mets, knocking 33 home runs with a 128 wRC+. While on the surface, a matchup against Marlins rookie righty Jordan Yamamoto seems juicy, a deeper look at the numbers suggests otherwise. Yamamoto has reverse splits and has held lefties to a .250 wOBA while striking them out in over 25% of plate appearances. While Yamamoto has struggled with control at times, walks don't win daily fantasy games.
Michael Brantley comes in at the same price while having a better matchup against Jaime Barria and the Los Angeles Angels
Jose Abreu, 1B, Chicago White Sox
FanDuel Price: $3,500
First base is just about the only position with plenty of quality options tonight. However, Jose Abreu is not one of those options as he takes on Aaron Civale and the Cleveland Indians. Civale has a 2.93 FIP on the season while holding opposing righties to a .251 wOBA in his rookie season. Abreu has a below-average wRC+ against righties this season and will have to deal with Cleveland's fifth-ranked defense according to Defensive Runs Saved.
Matt Olson ($3,700) costs a bit more but has a chance to tee off of Felix Hernandez.
