3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Tuesday 6/13/23
Stacking is an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. Correlation drives upside, giving your lineups a slate-winning ceiling when your stacks explode.
This piece will do the digging and the dirty work each day to determine which stacks are worth rostering on FanDuel's main slate. While we want upside, we also need to factor in game theory, especially in a sport as random as baseball.
Our MLB DFS heat map is a quick way to get a feel for the overall slate and which offenses are in a good spot. You can also check out our daily fantasy baseball projections to identify the slate's best bats.
Let's look at the top stacks for this main slate.
Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox flopped in a smash spot last night, scoring just three runs despite owning the slate's top implied total.
Well, Boston once again has the night's highest implied total (5.56), and we should feel confident going back to them on Tuesday.
The Red Sox are at Fenway versus Chase Anderson, a right-hander. Anderson is pretty much exactly the kind of pitcher we want to pick on; he's not missing many bats (15.3% strikeout rate) and is surrendering a lot of fly-balls (39.4% fly-ball rate).
Rafael Devers ($3,700) and Masataka Yoshida ($3,600) are top-shelf plays. Devers has a 43.0% hard-hit rate and 41.8% fly-ball rate against right-handers this season while Yoshida has a .379 wOBA with the platoon advantage.
Jarren Duran ($2,900) has been in the leadoff spot against a righty for each of the past two days. If he's there again, Duran would make a lot of sense at his value salary. If it's not Duran leading off, it'll likely be Alex Verdugo ($3,200).
Righties Justin Turner ($2,900) and Adam Duvall ($2,900) figure to be in the heart of the order. Enrique Hernandez ($2,700) and Connor Wong ($2,600) are forecasted to be in the bottom two slots in the order, but our model has both of them as top-10 point-per-dollar sticks. Triston Casas ($2,500) is a fine dart throw at a homer whenever Boston faces a right-hander.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers are on the stacking radar most nights, and they have the slate's second-highest implied total (5.20) on Tuesday.
LA is at home versus Lance Lynn. The veteran right-hander hasn't been terrible in 2023, but he hasn't been that good, either, sporting a 4.15 SIERA and 38.0% hard-hit rate while permitting 1.99 homers per nine.
Per usual, the biggest problem with stacking the Dodgers is salary as LA has five hitters at tags of at least $3,700. All five of them -- Mookie Betts ($4,200), Freddie Freeman ($4,500), Max Muncy ($3,700), J.D. Martinez ($4,000) and Will Smith ($3,800) -- are standout options if you can find the coin. Factoring in salary, Muncy is my favorite pick of the group. He's mashed righties to the tune of a .366 wOBA, 44.6% hard-hit rate and 50.0% fly-ball rate.
David Peralta ($2,400), James Outman ($2,900), Jason Heyward ($2,600) and Miguel Vargas ($2,900) are a big help in the cap-relief department if they get into the lineup. Peralta sometimes hits as high as sixth against righties.
Kansas City Royals
The Kansas City Royals (4.62 implied total) are an interesting stack tonight, and given how meh their offense usually is, KC might be way less popular than the Dodgers and Red Sox are.
The Royals are at home versus Brandon Williamson. The rookie left-hander is having a rough campaign, struggling to a 5.37 SIERA, 17.8% strikeout rate and 11.0% walk rate over his initial 26 2/3 MLB frames. He wasn't very good at Triple-A, either, striking out just 16.4% of hitters over 34 Triple-A innings earlier this season.
KC has just one hitter above $3,000 and no one salaried higher than $3,300, so they're a great place to look for low-salary production.
Bobby Witt Jr. ($3,300) and Salvador Perez ($3,000) are at the top of my Kansas City wishlist. Witt has totaled 10 jacks and 21 steals this season. Perez owns a .345 wOBA and 46.2% fly-ball rate in 2023.
While Nick Pratto ($2,900) gets dinged by the lefty-lefty matchup, he is projected to be atop the order and can be deployed at either first base or outfield. The same goes for MJ Melendez, another lefty who will likely be in a good spot in the lineup and can be used at catcher and outfield.
Maikel Garcia ($2,700), Matt Duffy ($2,300), Edward Olivares ($2,800) and Drew Waters ($2,300) will all hit from the right side against Williamson and need to be on the value radar if they start.
Other Top Options: Texas Rangers (vs. Jaime Barria), Houston Astros (vs. Patrick Corbin), Philadelphia Phillies (at Zach Davies)
