Daily Fantasy Baseball: Advanced Stats to Know for Hitter Selection
It's pretty easy to fall in love with the statistics of Major League Baseball. I've got Byron Buxton's Fangraphs page as my top bookmark, one of my favorite books is called, "The Numbers Game," and I used to sort my baseball cards in descending order based on career home runs.
Basically, these puppies run my life.
The issue with these stats is that there are so many of them. You've got BABIP, on-base percentage, and fly-ball rate, and that doesn't even touch on hard-hit rate or splits. Where are you supposed to start?
If it all seems a bit overwhelming, I can't blame you for a second. There's a lot to digest here, and if you're not a baseball guru, it could make delving into daily fantasy baseball a bit daunting.
To combat this, let's go through some of the stats that are most important to peep when you're making your hitter selections. This won't be an exhaustive list by any means, but it can at least help you get started to streamline your research process.
