4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 7/26/16

The Texas Rangers' pitching staff is in disarray, making the Oakland Athletics a cheap stacking candidate. What other teams should we consider in MLB DFS?

Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.

Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.

Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.

Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.

Now, let's get to the stacks. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.

Oakland Athletics

The Texas Rangers had narrowed their choices for pitchers to start today's game to two. The original option was Kyle Lohse, he of the 7.03 SIERA in two big-league starts and 5.07 FIP in 10 Triple-A outings. Clearly, that would have been a poor choice. Instead, they opted to recall Nick Martinez from the minors to take the bump.

His SIERA is 6.61. Ya think they need an arm at the trade deadline?

In Martinez's 22 1/3 innings in the majors this year, he has almost twice as many walks as strikeouts, nullifying any advantage he gets from his 50.6% ground-ball rate. Things didn't get much better at Triple-A with a 16.9% strikeout rate, so the Oakland Athletics are ready to unleash.

Even though he doesn't have the platoon advantage, Khris Davis has stupid potential in this game. He has a 39.5% hard-hit rate and 39.2% fly-ball rate against righties this year, the numbers of a high-upside slugger. He has trimmed his previously-troublesome strikeout rate to 23.3% over the past month, and a matchup with Martinez should allow him to put plenty of balls in play. He generally fares well when that happens.
