4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 8/10/16

Even though the Pittsburgh Pirates' offense has struggled recently, there are signs they could improve soon. What other teams should we target tonight in MLB DFS?

Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.

Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.

Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.

Premium members can use our new stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.

Now, let's get to the stacks. With the split slates, we'll focus exclusively on the main slate beginning at 7 pm Eastern. Here are the teams you should be targeting in daily fantasy baseball today.

Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates are chilling down in 25th in wRC+ over the past 30 days. Cause for concern? Not really. They're ninth in hard-hit rate over that same span, and they're roughly average in both strikeout and walk rate. The offense is fine. That's why we should invest as they tango with Edwin Jackson tonight.

Even when you include Jackson's eight bullpen appearances this year, his SIERA is a ghastly 5.52 with a 12.7% strikeout rate and 10.1% walk rate. That's not likely to improve as he stretches out for longer outings, so things could quickly hit the tanks in the not-so-distant future.

When Gregory Polanco was out of the lineup for a few days, the Pirates punched Starling Marte in the two hole. This isn't a guy who figures to give that spot up any time soon.

Marte's season-long hard-hit rate is already 36.1%, but it leaps up to 44.8% since the All-Star break. Add in his 39 stolen bases, and you can see why this is a guy deserving of a premier spot in the order.
