Starling Marte sitting Monday for Marlins
Miami Marlins outfielder Starling Marte is not in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against left-hander Jon Lester and the Washington Nationals.
The Marlins appear to be giving Marte a routine breather after he played in both ends of a double-header on Sunday. There was also a report on Sunday night that Marte and the Marlins are no longer discussing a long-term contract extension, fueling speculation that the outfielder will be dealt by next week's trade deadline. Monte Harrison is starting in center field on Monday and hitting sixth. Jon Berti is hitting second in place of Marte.
Berti is numberFire’s best point-per-dollar value among hitters on Monday's slate. He has a $2,100 salary and our models project him for 11.8 FanDuel points. Lester is registering a 14.1 strikeout percentage this season, which ranks in the bottom two percent of the league.
