New York's Francisco Alvarez (thumb) will undergo surgery
According to manager Carlos Mendoza, New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez (thumb) will undergo surgery.
Per Mendoza, while Alvarez's return timeline from surgery to address a torn ligament in his left thumb has yet to be determined, he has confidence the Mets' catcher will return at some point this season.
Expect Omar Narvaez and Tomas Nido to handle the bulk of the work behind the plate while Alvarez is sidelined.
