Clarke Schmidt now starting for Yankees on Thursday
New York Yankees right-handed pitcher Clarke Schmidt will start in Thursday night's series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays.
What It Means:
Schmidt will make the start after Luis Severino was scratched and placed on the COVID-19 injured list. He hasn't thrown more than 2 2/3 innings since May 14, so it will likely be a bullpen game for the Yankees.
Schmidt has a 3.26 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP with a 19.2% strikeout rate and a 12.8% walk rate this season.
