New York Mets infielder Mark Vientos (wrist) is not in the lineup for Thursday's series opener against right-hander Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals.
What It Means:
Vientos is absent for a second straight game due to a wrist issue. Pete Alonso will play first base and Jonathan Arauz will cover the hot corner again. Dan Vogelbach will make another start as the Mets' designated hitter.

He has a 8.78 ERA and 7.79 xERA this season, with a 37.7% hard-hit rate, 11.8% strikeout rate, and 7.9% walk rate. His xERA and punchout rate are among the worst in the league for qualified pitchers in 2023.
