Rays' Shane Baz (elbow) expected back 'early to mid-season'
Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Shane Baz (elbow) is healthy to open Spring Training and is expected to return to the mound in the early to middle parts of the upcoming 2024 season.
Baz is working his way back up to full strength after missing the 2023 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The team appears to be taking a highly cautious approach with the young starter and could severely curb his innings this season (especially early on). The young pitcher has shown promise, but has pitched just 40.1 innings in the majors so far.
Baz should become a key member of the Rays' pitching rotation when he's ready to return to the mound, but fantasy managers will want to remain patient with him early on this season. He posted elite numbers as a true rookie, but struggled before succumbing to his elbow injury in the 2022 season.
