The Best of the Best
Chris Paul - Think he knows it's going to take a Herculean effort? Paul's 24 Game 4 field goal attempts represented 31 percent of the Clippers' total shots, his 11 made free throws were 59 percent of the Clippers' total made free throws, and his 33.4 percent usage rate was the highest among either team's starters. It honestly might not matter whether L.A. wins or not: CP3's going to get his stats simply because the Clippers don't have too many other answers.
Carmelo Anthony - In speaking of high usage rates, how does Carmelo Anthony's 28.2 percent rate from Game 5 sound, the highest of any player from either the Knicks or Celtics with 10 minutes played? Good? Because that is Melo's lowest usage rate of the series, including a wait-that-barely-makes-sense 50.9 percent usage rate from Game 4. If it's a lot of opportunities that you want, then Melo is your man.
Paul Pierce - In Game 4, Paul Pierce played over 49 minutes in an OT win. In Game 5, Paul Pierce played 44 minutes in a Boston win. Want the real Truth? If you think Pierce is sitting on the bench for any extended period of time in Game 6 (barring unlikely foul trouble), then you're absolutely nuts. And when he's in the game, he's going to get the ball - Pierce's 30.4 percent usage rate this series is six percent higher than any other player on the Boston team.
Top Mid-Range Options
Roy Hibbert - The Hawks aren't exactly the most adept rebounding team. They came into the playoffs No. 27 in offensive rebound percentage and No. 13 in defensive rebound percentage, so you knew it wasn't going to be pretty. And it hasn't been - the Pacers have gained a higher percentage of available offensive rebounds in every single game this series, even the 90-69 Game 3 shellacking. That bodes well for Hibbert, who has a 14.2 percent offensive rebound rate this series himself and 9.2 projected boards tonight.
DeAndre Jordan - Say what you want about DeAndre Jordan, but he's really all the Clippers have on the offensive boards in this series. He has collected 14.5 percent of available offensive boards when he's on the floor this series; no other Clipper who has played at least 10 minutes per game is above nine percent (Ronny Turiaf at 8.5). With rebounds such a crucial part of this series and Griffin still ailing, I'd expect to see a lot of Jordan tonight, just like his 31 minutes in Game 5.
Reggie Jackson - If there's one thing you can say about OKC's Plan B to Westbrook, it's that he's been getting his playing time. Since Westbrook went down, Jackson has not played less than 24.5 minutes, and he played at least 32 minutes in both Game 4 and Game 5. With Beverley guarding him for most of the time in Game 5, Jackson went off, but in a manageable way: a .533 eFG%, 109 offensive rating, 20 points, 4 boards, and 3 assists. With Beverley starting over the ailing Lin once again, those stats wouldn't be unexpected again, and I'd take them for his price.
