College Basketball Daily Fantasy Helper: Monday 12/23/19

Obi Toppin and the Dayton Flyers are in a fantastic spot on Monday night, who else should we be targeting?

College basketball season is upon us, and we have a three-game slate tonight.

March Madness is months away, but you can get in all the college hoops hype by playing daily contests at FanDuel today. If you've played NBA DFS before, it's quite simple: pick a total of eight players -- four guards, three forwards, and one utility spot you can use for either position. Stay within the $50,000 salary cap and field the team you think will score the most fantasy points.

Where scoring differs from NBA is in the blocks and steals categories, with each worth two FanDuel points apiece rather than the three you get in daily NBA contests.

Now that you're in the know, we can attack today's main slate, which locks at 7:00 p.m. EST.

Which players should you be targeting, and why?

Guards

Anthony Edwards, Georgia ($7,400) - Edwards is a supremely talented freshman known for his ability to create his own shot and excellent defense. He's also the potential number one pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Edwards leads the Georgia Bulldogs in minutes (29.8 per game) and points (19.4 per game). He's a great play in what should be an extremely fast-paced game. The Bulldogs are 26th in Ken Pom's adjusted tempo metric while their opponent, Georgia Southern is 26th.

Kendric Davis, SMU ($7,300) - The Southern Methodist point guard has been phenomenal in the six games that he's played in this season. Davis has recorded at least 24.3 FanDuel points in all six games. On tap is a matchup with the Georgia State Panthers' vulnerable defense. The Panthers are 149th in Ken Pom's adjusted defense metric.

Jalen Crutcher, Dayton ($6,400) - Crutcher leads the Flyers in minutes (32.5 per game) and assists (5.4 per game). He's second on the team in scoring (13.1 per game). The junior has scored at least 16 points, grabbed five rebounds, and recorded at least three assists in each of the last two games.

Rodney Chatman, Dayton ($5,100) - Chatman won't score a bunch of points but his ability to stuff the sheet makes him viable. Through 11 games, the junior is averaging 8.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.5 blocks/steals in 26.8 minutes. With the Dayton carrying a massive 87 implied team total, it'd be wise to roster several Flyers.

Jordan Harris, Georgia ($4,300) - Harris made his season debut in Georgia's 87-85 double-overtime win over SMU. The senior scored nine points, grabbed four rebounds, and recorded a steal in 17 minutes of action. His minutes should increase as he further integrates into the rotation. Harris posted double digits in 10 out of the Bulldogs' last 14 games a season ago. With explosive teammates like Rayshaun Hammonds and Anthony Edwards on the court, Harris figures to get plenty of open shots.

Forwards

Obi Toppin, Dayton ($8,000) - Toppin is having a fantastic season for the surging Dayton Flyers. The sophomore is averaging 19.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.4 blocks/steals in 31.5 minutes. He should no problems dropping a massive stat line against the Grambling Tigers' horrible defense. The Tigers rank 248th in Ken Pom's adjusted defense metric.

Isiaha Mike, SMU ($7,500) - Mike is a model of consistency as he's scored at least 11 real-life points in all 10 games this season while also recording at least five rebounds in nine of ten. He's posted at least 21 FanDuel points in nine games. He's also flashed his enormous ceiling as he's recorded at least 43 Fan Duel points in two games. MIke is a great choice as the game with Georgia State should be competitive (SMU is a 7.5 point favorite) and SMU is carrying a healthy 75.5 implied team total.

Rayshaun Hammonds, Georgia ($7,200) - The junior has one of the highest ceilings on the slate. Hamilton is averaging 1.19 fantasy points per minute which is amongst the best in college basketball. He's attempting 17.9% of the team's field goal attempts and grabbing 21.7% of the team's rebounds. With an implied team total of 85 -- second-highest on the slate -- Hammonds is one of the top plays on this slate.

Ryan Mikesell ($5,200) - Sticking with the Dayton theme, Mikesell ranks third or better on the Flyers' roster in minutes (26.7 per game), field goal attempts (7.5 per game), points (10.5 per game), rebounds (4.0 per game), and blocks (0.5 per game). Having logged 31 minutes or more in three out of the last four games, Mikesell figures to play a ton in one of the best matchups of the season. The Flyers are carrying an implied team total of 87 which is three more than their season average of 84.

Toumani Camara, Georgia ($4,100) - We have to find value somewhere in order to spend up on the multiple studs on this slate. That's where Camara comes in. The consensus top-100 recruit has seen his playing time increase over the Bulldogs' last four games. Camara has logged at least 19 minutes in four straight games after playing under 15 minutes in Georgia's first six games. The freshman has grabbed at least five rebounds and blocked at least one shot in each of the last four games. At $4,100, he's one of the better values on the slate.
