College Football Betting Guide: Friday 10/14/22

SMU's poor defense will be tasked with defending Tai Lavatai and Navy's triple option attack. How should we bet the game?

Unless you're dying to have some coin on a 33-point spread between Texas-San Antonio and Florida International, there's really one game worth watching on Friday.

It's an AAC clash between the option-centric Navy Midshipmen and the Southern Methodist Mustangs. Both are still alive for a bowl berth, and this game could go a long way to deciding that.

How should we bet the contest?

Navy Midshipmen at SMU Mustangs

Over 57.5 (-110) - 3 Stars

If you enjoy the ups and downs of Carson Wentz, I'd like to introduce you to SMU's Tanner Mordecai.

The former Oklahoma Sooner is productive through the air. He's posted 1,680 passing yards already in just five games. But he's also thrown six interceptions in that time. Sounds a little like our friend in Washington, no?

As a result, SMU has been a circus this year. Their games have featured at least 58 points in each contest, and they're 12.5-point favorites here.

Better yet -- both of these defenses stink. They're top-20 schools in overall yards per play allowed this season. Importantly, SMU is also 116th in rushing yards allowed per play, so Navy's triple-option attack should have some life in this one, too.

Our model sees this game as 62.9% likely to see at least 58 points scored again. Against the standard 52.5% implied odds of a -110 bet, there's still value in betting on plenty of scoring in Dallas.
