Texans decline Gareon Conley's 2021 fifth-year option
The Houston Texans have declined defensive back Gareon Conley's 2021 fifth-year option, according to the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson.
A 1st round draft pick by the Las Vegas Raiders back in 2017, Conley was acquired by the Texans last October for a 2020 third-round draft pick. Conley played 8 games for the Texans last season, surrendering 24 completions on 46 targets (52.2%) for 299 yards (12.5 per reception), 2 touchdowns, and a passer rating against of 87.1. Conley's fifth-year option was worth $10.24 million in 2021, but he now set to become a free agent following this season. It's an interesting move by the Texans after parting with significant draft capital to add Conley to their secondary.
Conley earned a grade of 63.2 from Pro Football Focus last season, second-best among Texan's cornerbacks, and 87th among the NFL.
