The Seahawks have been in touch with several veteran running backs this offseason, including Devonta Freeman and Marshawn Lynch, signaling that Rashaad Penny (ACL) is unlikely to be ready for Week 1. A second-round selection by San Francisco in 2014, Hyde spent 4 seasons with the 49ers before moving to Cleveland, Jacksonville, and eventually spending all of last season with the Houston Texans. He handled 274 carries for the Texans last year, producing 1,162 yards (4.2 per attempt) and 6 touchdowns. Hyde added 14 receptions on 19 targets for 65 yards (4.6 per reception) and 1 touchdown through the air. Except for his 2017 season with the 49ers, Hyde has never caught more than 27 passes in a season and has just 24 total receptions over his past two seasons. His lack of involvement in the passing game is in stark contrast with Devonta Freeman's career numbers, and if Seattle opts to go with Hyde over Freeman it may be a boost for Chris Carson's receiving outlook.

Hyde earned a running grade of 77.2 from Pro Football Focus last season, the highest mark of his career, and 16th best at his position.
