Pats' Dante Scarnecchia to stay retired

Recently retired New England Patriots offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia told ESPN's Mike Reiss that he will stay retired this time.

What It Means:

Scarnecchia was retired for the 2014 and 2015 seasons, but returned to the Patriots for each of the previous four seasons. He believes this retirement will stick, and was quoted in the interview saying '...I was pretty much done with at all,' by the time of the draft.

Scarnecchia will likely go down as one of the greatest assistant coaches of all time. It's worth noting that, in the interview, he claimed to have contributed heavily in the scouting process leading into the 2020 NFL Draft. The Patriots selected three offensive linemen this year, as well as two tight ends with blocking experience. The Patriots offensive line improved as the 2019 season progressed, and figures to be one of the strong points of their offense this year.
