49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo "was affected by his ankle" in Week 5
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said he could tell quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo "was affected by his ankle" in the team's Week 5 loss and that with "the way the game was going I wasn’t going to keep putting him in those positions.”
It certainly looked like the 49ers had had enough of Garoppolo when he exited yesterday's game, but Shanahan's statements paint the picture of a team pulling a visibly-injured player before he could get re-injured. Garoppolo admitted as much himself after the game, saying “I tried to drive it (and) couldn’t really pull it down,” of the throw that led to his second interception of the game.
It's unclear whether Garoppolo will be healthy enough to start in Week 5, but backup C.J. Beathard wasn't much better in relief. Beathard completed 9 of his 18 attempts for 94 yards and a score while losing a fumble. This will be a situation to monitor in 49ers practice this week.
