Packers sign free agent running back Josh Jacobs
The Green Bay Packers are signing former Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs to a new contract.
Jacobs essentially played on the franchise tag for the Raiders last season after a complicated offseason process. The former first round pick, who led the league in rushing in 2022, could make for an excellent pairing with longtime Packers rusher Aaron Jones. The Packers were in need of an additional set of legs at the position after former second-round pick A.J. Dillon struggled to live up to expectations when given the opportunity.
At this early stage of the offseason, Jacobs should be expected to split the early down rushing work down the middle with Jones, who has been electric when healthy for Green Bay. Jacobs' 2023 season was on the disappointing side, but the Packers are clearly betting on the upside he showed in 2022.
